Not so "Wordless Wednesday."

A little blog to let you know what I've been up to.

First, I'm working on my second tutorial!! :) I'm hoping to get it all done within the next few weeks.   (yes I know I take forever...but I'm trying my best!)

If you read my previous post you know that my niece is an HONOR STAR!  One of the highlights for a girl being crowned as an Honor Star, is that she wears a beautiful white (or in this white) dress.  Lack of funds forced me to be resourceful. I had to do something I had never done before....I had to "Thrift" a fancy dress for her.

I purchased an Ivory dress at a local thrift store for $12.00. I Really didn't do much to the dress.  I washed it, then I added a rhinestone trim to the waist. A friend of mine taught me how to "Whip" and "slide" stitch to attach the rhinestone trim to the dress.

I was so happy with the results and my niece looked beautiful!

Do any of you thrift anything?  What is your most favorite "thrifty" creation?

  1. Wow! It made a beautiful difference! I did something similar for my brothers wedding. My dress had some beads I didn't like so I took them off and added a rhinestone necklace. It looked pretty good!!

  2. You do what you do in crunch times!!! What no one knows doesn't hurt! so what if it's thrift store - it was still good, a little trim fancied it up just right and i must say - she looked absolutely elegant compared to the other girlies that were there (and i'm sure their dresses were not thrift store) You rock Dina!!! My furkid Ginger wants to know if you can dress up her doggie collar with rhinestones also since it came from the dollar bin at Target, or rather .. Tar-jay!

  3. I love thrifting! I wish I could do it more often. Your little project turned out well! Good job!

  4. Oh you bet I thrift. If I didn't thrift, I couldn't afford the fun things we do. Budget, thrift, second hand, you name it we do it.

    Dress is gorgeous.
